Volkmann's contracture

a condition often caused by pressure from a cast (see PLASTER OF PARIS ) or tight BANDAGE on the arm. The result is persistent contraction ( FLEXION ) of forearm muscles and decreased BLOOD supply to hand and arm. The muscles then swell and become fibrosed (see FIBROSIS ).
