any of the bones making up the SPINAL COLUMN . Each has a cavity (the vertebral canal or FORAMEN ) and various PROCESSES for attachment of MUSCLES or articulation of adjacent vertebrae. The SPINAL CORD passes through the vertebral canal. See also INTERVERTEBRAL DISC .
