ventricle
A ventricle is a hollow chamber or cavity within an ORGAN, especially referring to the pumping chambers of the HEART or the fluid-filled cavities of the BRAIN.
A ventricle is an anatomical cavity or chamber found within certain organs. The term most commonly refers to the CARDIAC VENTRICLES of the HEART and the BRAIN VENTRICLES of the central nervous system. In the HEART, ventricles are thick muscular chambers responsible for pumping BLOOD. The RIGHT VENTRICLE pumps blood to the LUNGS through the PULMONARY ARTERY, while the LEFT VENTRICLE pumps oxygen-rich blood through the AORTA to the rest of the body. In the BRAIN, ventricles are interconnected cavities filled with CEREBROSPINAL FLUID. They help produce, circulate, and maintain this fluid, which protects and supports the BRAIN and SPINAL CORD.
