the means whereby air passes into and out of the LUNGS , aided by movement of the DIAPHRAGM . Artificial ventilation is the use of a machine ( VENTILATOR ) to regulate and perform a person's breathing. This may be during an operation. Also, damage to the relevant part of the brain, chest injury, lung disease or nerve and muscle disorders may all require the use of artificial ventilation.
