It receives the erect PENIS during sexual intercourse, the SEMEN being ejaculated into the upper part from where the SPERMS pass through the CERVIX and UTERUS to the FALLOPIAN TUBES . The vagina is essentially a muscular tube lined with MUCOUS MEMBRANE .
