urticaria
Urticaria, also called hives or nettle rash, is a SKIN condition caused by an immune reaction that leads to raised, itchy swellings called wheals.
Urticaria is a common SKIN reaction characterized by temporary raised, itchy areas called wheals that occur when substances such as HISTAMINE are released from MAST CELLS. Acute urticaria may occur after exposure to triggers such as certain foods, medicines, infections, or allergens, while chronic urticaria may persist or recur without an obvious allergic cause. In some cases, swelling can involve deeper tissues, producing ANGIOEDEMA. Swelling affecting the tongue, throat, or airway requires urgent medical attention because it may interfere with breathing.
Urticaria, or hives, is an itchy skin reaction that causes raised patches or bumps. It often improves on its own but may sometimes need treatment.
