temporal lobe epilepsy

EPILEPSY that is centred within the TEMPORAL LOBE , caused by disease within the CEREBRAL CORTEX . It is characterized by hallucinations involving the senses of taste, smell, hearing and sight, and memory disturbances. During an attack, the person usually remains conscious, but not fully and normally aware, and afterwards may not have any memory of what has occurred.
