subarachnoid haemorrhage
bleeding into the SUBARACHNOID SPACE , often because of a ruptured cerebral ANEURYSM . Initial symptoms are a severe headache, stiff neck, followed by vomiting and drowsiness, and there may be a brief period of unconsciousness after the event. Brain damage is possible but severe haemorrhages may result in death.
