stricture

a narrowing of a passage in the body, e.g. the URETHRA , OESOPHAGUS , or URETER . It may result from INFLAMMATION , a SPASM , growth of a TUMOUR or pressure from surrounding organs. In many cases it is caused by ulceration and contraction of the subsequent scar tissue. With a urethral stricture, it becomes increasingly difficult to pass URINE .
