spondylosis

degeneration of JOINTS and the INTERVERTEBRAL DISCS of the spine, producing pain in the neck and LUMBAR region where the joints may actually restrict movement. OSTEOPHYTES are commonly formed and the space occupied by the discs reduced. PHYSIOTHERAPY may help sufferers, and collars or surgical belts can prevent movement and give support. Surgery may be required occasionally to relieve pressure on nerves or fuse joints.
