spasm

a muscular contraction that is involuntary. Spasms may be part of a more major disorder (e.g. SPASTIC PARALYSIS , CONVULSIONS ) or they may be specific, such as in CRAMP , COLIC , etc. A HEART spasm is known as ANGINA .
