Medical Term
sleeping sickness
a parasitic disease found in tropical Africa which is spread through the bite of tsetse flies.Initially the symptoms consist of a recurring fever, a slight rash, headache and chills. Then follows ANAEMIA , enlarged LYMPH NODES and pain in joints and limbs. Then after some time (possibly years), sleeping sickness itself develops. This is because of the parasites occupying minute blood vessels in the brain, resulting in damage and symptoms of drowsiness and lethargy. Death may follow from weakness or an associated disease.
