septic shock

a form of shock that occurs because of SEPTICAEMIA . The toxins cause a drastic fall in BLOOD PRESSURE as a result of tissue damage and blood clotting. Kidneys, heart and lungs are affected, and related symptoms include fever, TACHYCARDIA or even COMA . The condition occurs most in those who already have a serious disease, such as CANCER , DIABETES or CIRRHOSIS . Urgent treatment is vital, with ANTIBIOTICS , oxygen and fluids given intravenously.
