scab
a crust than forms over an injury (scratch, sore, etc) during the body's healing processes. The scab consists of FIBRIN , dried blood, SERUM or PUS and epithelial cells (see EPITHELIUM ). Healing occurs beneath the protective scab, which falls off when the process is complete. Scabs caused by INFECTIONS occur, e.g. on the face, with no previous sign.
