RNA Virus
An RNA virus is a type of VIRUS that uses RNA as its genetic material instead of DNA.
An RNA virus is a VIRUS whose genetic material is composed of RIBONUCLEIC ACID (RNA). RNA viruses use different methods to copy their genetic material and reproduce inside host CELLS. Many RNA viruses have high mutation rates, allowing them to change rapidly over time. Important groups of RNA viruses include RETROVIRUS, ROTAVIRUS, FLAVIVIRUS, and ALPHAVIRUS. RNA viruses cause many human diseases, including INFLUENZA, COVID-19, and infections caused by ZIKA VIRUS and WEST NILE VIRUS.
An RNA virus is a virus that stores its genetic instructions in RNA and uses living cells to make copies of itself.
• Type of virus containing RNA genetic material • Uses host cells to reproduce • Many RNA viruses can change rapidly through mutation • Includes retroviruses, rotaviruses, flaviviruses, and alphaviruses • Can infect humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms • Responsible for many important infectious diseases
