ribonucleic acid

a complex nucleic acid present mainly in the CYTOPLASM of cells but also in the NUCLEUS . It is involved in the production of PROTEINS and exits in three forms, ribosomal (r), transfer (t) and messenger (m) RNA . In some viruses it forms the genetic material (see also DNA ).
