rat-bite fever

two types of infectious disease that are contracted following the bite of a rat. The first type is caused by either of two kinds of BACTERIA and produces symptoms of fever, skin rash and joint and muscle pains. The second type is caused by a FUNGUS and produces similar symptoms and vomiting. Both diseases are treated with PENICILLIN .
