pyelitis

INFLAMMATION of part of the KIDNEY , the renal PELVIS . The cause is usually a bacterial infection (commonly E.coli , see ESCHERIA ) and sometimes it occurs as a complication of PREGNANCY . Symptoms include pain in the loins, high temperature, loss weight, but it does respond to ANTIBIOTICS . Usually the infection is not limited to the pelvis but all the kidney is involved, hence a more accurate term is pyelonephritis.
