prostatectomy
surgical excision of the PROSTATE GLAND , performed to relieve URINE retention caused by enlargement of the prostate. It is also done to counter poor flow of urine or frequent urination. The operation can be undertaken from several approaches: via the URETHRA , from the BLADDER , or from the PERINEUM (for a BIOPSY ).
