plaster of Paris

a type of calcium sulphate (gypsum) used to make plaster models in dentistry and plaster casts in ORTHOPAEDICS . When mixed with water, it sets firmly, and in the preparation of a SPLINT for FRACTURES , bandages impregnated with the plaster are used. These are easily applied and moulded to the shape of the limb.
