enzymes that convert the inactive substance PLASMINOGEN to the active enzyme PLASMIN , which digests blood clots (see FIBRINOLYSIS ). There are two types of plasminogen activators, TISSUE-TYPE PLASMINOGEN ACTIVATOR (t-PA) and urokinase-like plasminogen activator (u-PA).
