palate

the roof of the MOUTH , which separates the cavity of the mouth below from that of the nose above. It consists of the hard and soft palate. The hard palate is located at the front of the mouth and is a bony plate covered by MUCOUS MEMBRANE . The soft palate is a muscular layer also covered by mucous membrane. The movable soft palate is important in the production of sounds and speech.
