osteophyte
also: osteophytes
a bony projection that occurs near a joint or intervertebral disc where CARTILAGE has degenerated or been destroyed (see OSTEOARTHRITIS ). Osteophytes may, in any case, occur with increasing age, with or without loss of cartilage.
