optic atrophy

a deterioration and wasting of the OPTIC DISC as a result of degeneration of fibres in the OPTIC NERVE . It may accompany numerous conditions, including DIABETES , ARTERIO SCLEROSIS or GLAUCOMA , or may be because of a congenital defect, inflammation or injury, or toxic poisoning from alcohol, lead, etc.
