Medical Term
nuclear magnetic resonance
an analytical technique based upon the absorption of electromagnetic radiation over specific frequencies for those nuclei that spin about their own axes. The result is a change in orientation of the nuclei and certain elements are particularly susceptible (hydrogen, fluorine and phosphorus). The technique has been developed into a medical imaging tool that can create an image of soft tissues in any part of the body.
