neurohormone

a HORMONE that is secreted by the NERVE endings of specialized nerve CELLS (i.e. neurosecretory cells) and not by an ENDOCRINE GLAND . They are secreted into the bloodstream or directly into the target tissue. Included are NORADRENALINE and VASOPRESSIN (produced in the HYPOTHALAMUS and secreted by the PITUITARY GLAND - active in the control of water reabsorption in the KIDNEYS ).
