INFLAMMATION of a NERVE or nerves, which may be the result of inflammation from nearby tissues or a more general condition in which the nerve fibres degenerate. This latter condition (polyneuritis) is caused by a systemic poison such as alcohol or long-term exposure to solvents such as naphtha.
