the technique of blocking SENSORY nerves sending pain impulses to the brain, thus creating ANAESTHESIA in that part of the body. It is achieved by injecting the tissue around a nerve with local ANAESTHETIC (e.g. LIGNOCAINE ) to permit minor operations.
