also: nerves

a bundle of fibres comprising NEURONS and glial (supporting) cells (see GLIA ), all contained in a fibrous sheath, the epineurium. MOTOR NERVES carry (efferent) impulses in motor neurons from the BRAIN (or SPINAL CORD ) to MUSCLES or GLANDS , and a SENSORY nerve carries (afferent) impulses in sensory neurons from sensory organs to the brain or spinal cord. Most large nerves are mixed nerves containing both motor and sensory nerves.
