necrotizing fasciitis
a progressive INFECTION that causes the destruction of soft tissue just below the SKIN . There are two types: type 1 is caused by a mixture of BACTERIA , including E. coli (see ESCHERICHIA ); type 2 includes bacteria of the Streptococcus pyogenes strain (see STREPTOCOCCUS ).
