muscle relaxant
a substance or drug that causes MUSCLES to relax. They are mainly used in ANAESTHESIA to produce relaxation or paralysis of muscles while surgery is being carried out, e.g. tubocurarine and gallamine. Others are administered to counteract muscular spasms, which are a feature of spastic conditions such as PARKINSONISM , e.g. diazepam.
