motor-neurone disease
a disease of unknown cause that most commonly occurs in middle age and is a degenerative condition affecting elements of the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (i.e. the fibres of the CEREBRAL CORTEX and SPINAL CORD , motor nuclei in the BRAIN stem and the cells of the anterior horn of the spinal cord). It causes increasing PARALYSIS involving NERVES and MUSCLES and is ultimately fatal.
