microsurgery

surgery performed with the aid of an operating microscope using high precision miniaturized instruments. It is routine for some operations on the EYE , LARYNX and EAR and increasingly in areas inaccessible to normal surgery, e.g. parts of the BRAIN and SPINAL CORD . Microsurgery is also performed in the rejoining of severed limbs, fingers, toes, etc, where very fine suturing of minute BLOOD VESSELS and NERVES is required.
