an abnormal change that has taken place within a tissue e.g. myeloid metaplasia, where elements of BONE MARROW develop within the SPLEEN and LIVER . Also squamous metaplasia, which involves a change in the EPITHELIUM lining the BRONCHI of the LUNGS .
