INFLAMMATION of the mastoid cells and mastoid ANTRUM , usually caused by bacterial infection that spreads from the middle EAR . Treatment is by means of ANTIBIOTIC drugs and sometimes surgery. See MASTOID PROCESS and MASTOIDECTOMY .
