1. a small area or spot of tissue that is distinct from the surrounding region, e.g. the yellow spot in the retina of the EYE . 2. a spot of small pigmented area in the SKIN , which may be thickened. They appear as a result of PREGNANCY , SUNBURN , ECZEMA or PSORIASIS and may be symptomatic of other diseases such as SYPHILIS and those affecting internal organs.
