linkage

the state when two or more GENES are said to be linked together if they occur close to each other on the same CHROMOSOME . The genes are thus likely to be inherited together, as will the characteristics that they represent. This is because the linked genes are more likely to be together in nuclei formed as a result of MEIOSIS (the chromosomal division that produces the GAMETES ).
