1. bands of fibrous CONNECTIVE TISSUE , composed chiefly of COLLAGEN , that join BONES together, restricting movement and preventing dislocation. Ligaments strengthen JOINTS , and most joints are surrounded by a capsular ligament. 2. a layer of SEROUS MEMBRANE , e.g. the PERITONEUM , which supports or links organs.
