Lassa fever

a highly contagious viral infection first reported from Lassa in Nigeria. It takes from three to 21 days to incubate and results in FEVER and headache, acute muscular pains, sore throat and some difficulty in swallowing. Death often occurs because of HEART or KIDNEY failure, and pregnant women show a high mortality rate. Little can be done as it is viral infection, but treatment with PLASMA from patients who have recovered may help.
