part of the air passage connecting the PHARYNX with the TRACHEA and also the organ producing vocal sounds. It is situated high up in the front of the neck and is constructed of CARTILAGES with LIGAMENTS and MUSCLES . The ligaments bind together the cartilages, and one pair of these from the VOCAL CORDS . The larynx is lined with MUCOUS MEMBRANE and in all is about 5 cm long.
