laminectomy

the surgical procedure in which access is gained to the SPINAL CORD by the removal of the arch of one or more VERTEBRAE . It is adopted when a TUMOUR is to be removed or a slipped disc is to be treated (see PROLAPSED INTERVERTEBRAL DISC ).
