jejunum

the part of the small INTESTINE lying before the ILEUM and after the DUODENUM . its main function is the absorption of digested food, and its lining has numerous finger-like projections (villi) that increase the surface area for absorption. The villi are longer in the jejunum than elsewhere in the small intestine.
