the part of the ALIMENTARY CANAL or tract between STOMACH and ANUS where final digestion and absorption of food matter occur, in addition to the removal of water and production of FAECES . The intestine is divided into the small intestine, comprising the DUODENUM , ILEUM and JEJUNUM , and the large intestine, which is made up of the CAECUM , vermiform APPENDIX , COLON and RECTUM . The length of the intestine in humans is about 9 metres (30 feet).
