affecting the contraction of heart muscle. Drugs such as DOBUTAMINE and ENOXIMONE have positive inotropic action, stimulating heart muscle contractions and causing the heart rate to increase. BETA BLOCKER drugs, such as PROPRANOLOL , have negative inotropic action, reducing heart muscle contractions and causing the heart rate to decrease.
