inclusion conjunctivitis

a sexually transmitted disease caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It can be transmitted to infants at birth, with the disease clinically apparent 5-13 days after birth. Diagnosis is by cell culture. Treatment in the newborn is with topical erythromycin; adults require oral tetracycline or doxycycline for three weeks.
