a drug, tissue or artificial object inserted or grafted into the skin or other organ. Drugs are often inserted into the skin for controlled release (see also DOSAGE ), and in RADIOTHERAPY treatment of prostate tumours or head/neck cancers can include embedding a capsule of radioactive material in the tissue. A surgical implant includes a tissue graft (e.g. a BLOOD VESSEL ), insertion of a PACEMAKER or a hip PROSTHESIS .
