hypersensitivity

abnormal allergic response to an ANTIGEN to which the person has previously been exposed. Hypersensitive responses vary from quite mild, such as HAY FEVER , to very severe and life-threatening, e.g. ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK . (See also ALLERGY .)
