heat stroke

a severe condition following exposure of the body to excessive heat, characterized by a rise in temperature and failure of sweating and TEMPERATURE regulation. There is a loss of consciousness, followed by coma and death, which can occur rapidly. The body must be cooled by sponging and salt solutions given either by mouth or intravenously.
