Fallopian tubes
also: fallopian tube

a pair of tubes, one of which leads from each OVARY to the UTERUS . At the ovary, the tube is expanded to form a funnel with finger - like projections, knowns as fimbriae, surrounding the opening. This funnel does not communicate directly with the ovary but is open to the abdominal cavity. However, when an egg is released from the ovary, the fimbriae move and waft it into the Fallopian tube. The tube is about 10 to 12 cm long and leads directly into the womb at the lower end through a narrow opening.
