high BLOOD PRESSURE with no identifiable cause. ARTERIOSCLEROSIS is a complication of, and often associated with, essential hypertension. Other complications include cerebral HAEMORRHAGE , HEART FAILURE and KIDNEY failure. There are now several drugs that reduce blood pressure, including BETA BLOCKERS and METHYLDOPA .
